Outdoor Pallet Wood Table

This is not your typical pallet wood table.

It's good to have an inspector check your hard work.

So right, this is not your typical pallet wood table. I stopped by the nearby pallet wood rehabber and grabbed all sorts of crazy bits and pieces. Came home and arranged them into a table top, face down.

Yes, these pieces are all ratty, cracked, some with cool bent rusty nails. Yes, this is a project for grown-up use.

Be sure to come read all the details about this project and many more on my blog at Flipping the Flip!

It took me a good while to figure out how to connect all the extremely unlike pieces together. I finally happened upon this plastic resin glue and wow, unbelievably, it worked. I spread glue on the edges, dribbled glue in the seams, and it held everything together. A true shock!

I made a mess all right.

Unfortunately though, the glue seeped through to the front. I had to chisel it off. I didn't want to sand it as much like my pallet wood pantry floor (check out my other projects!), I wanted to preserve the original patina.

The legs came from Pretty Pegs, all the way from Stockholm! Crazy, right?! But I'm sure you could use any legs you choose.

After several fits and starts, it finally came together, events you can read about on the blog and worth the read for what I learned.

I left a gap for an inexpensive planter trough for ice or other dining necessities.

Here's a detail of the wood after three coats of an outdoor polyurethane. Cool, right?! So it's not smooth, it's not a solid level top, but I think that's what makes it special, one of a kind, and neat.
