I used to have these gorgeous plants in New Hampshire and I want to try potting and planting them in Florida in a shady area. Can I get hostas in Florida or order them online?

Have you checked your local garden center?

I've learned the hard way--poor results--to not order bulbs, etc., from out-of-state. If it is not sold in your local store garden centers, it's not compatible with your climate conditions. If you are looking for a ground cover in shade under our Florida oak trees, try the miniature jasmine-African jasmine was the name I saw at Home Depot.

I live in Ohio near Lake Erie. We get freezing cold northeast winds. We get frost in the ground 6-12 inches down sometimes more. We get high humidity. We get drought times. We get 100 degree summer days sometimes. Last summer near July 4th we had torrential rains that caused flooding. And right where I have lived for the last almost 3 years I have wind almost perpetually. I understand what you are saying but I refuse to go to the greenhouses and look at the same old same old all the time. I want beautiful and different. The greenhouses stock what sells.

Hostas need winter cold. They are not hearty in the hot FL weather.

I found Sun Hostas at Lowes in FL. They have bloomed twice.

I live in North Florida in zone 9 and I have had hostas in many areas around my house. I do not put them in direst sun, but in partial shade if possible. they grow like weeds! I also saw in a plant catalog some hostas for hot areas. Google them!

I have tons of hostas as well, in Mississippi. No problem at all, as long as they are in the shade.

We live in South Central TX and enjoy hostas in all of our shady gardens. Love them!
