Where are all the melons?

my watermelon vines are very healthy and spreading in all directions. there are lots of flowers but no fruit. i found just one large watermelon and was surprised that there wasnt more. are the flowers not getting pollinated? i fertilized liberally. what can i do to help them?

Sounds like a pollination issue. If you don't see bees around, you'll have to give Mother Nature a helping hand. The University of Missouri has the how-to's here: http://extension.missouri.edu/publications/DisplayPub.aspx?P=M173
