DIY Island

I needed an island for my guest house, which is actually my cosmetics manufacturing lab. I wanted more surface working area, but I try to keep this guest house looking like a living area. (sort of a lab in disguise)
So, I dug around and found these old stair posts. After a trip to the big box store, I threw this together.
Scrap wood made good corner braces. I explain these in more detail on my blog.
Added support. Here you can see the interior of the island.
Working on the trim and the bottom shelf. FYI - I have more details on the paint color and how I get a smooth finish for all of my painted furniture pieces in the article.
I also built this cedar tabletop for the island. (Because the article is so in-depth, the instructions for the table top are going in its own article. That should be ready by Monday). I hope this inspires someone. If you want all the down and dirty details, just head on over to the original and complete article by clicking on the link below.
Suggested materials:
  • Knotty pine posts   (left over from another project)
  • Poplar wood   (Lowes)

So, let me see, you just "threw this together" did you? When I throw something together it sure never looks like that. I'm so happy if all four sides are the same height. It's beautiful and looks so expensive. Well done, my dear.

My hobby is woodworking. So I make furniture and a lot of other things.
