Well after all the questions and answers from you, we have moved into our new home. It is amazing. I have two questions about cleaning and have read so many different answers I figured it was time to ask the pros... you. So how do I keep my stainless steel appliances clean and finger print clean? Also I have granite countertops... I have read everything you can imagine with conflicting answers... how do I keep them clean daily and is there a norm for sealing and what do you use for that?

Congrats on your new home! I can't offer tips on this current question since I have neither granite or stainless appliances. However, I've followed some of the previous questions you've posed about house decisions and I'm anxious to see your new home. Do you have a blog where you are sharing a new home tour, or are you planning to post photos here?

I will post them here... trying to get the boxes unpacked so I can show pictures of rooms rather than the chaos of boxes I am currently living with. Stay tuned.

I know what that's like! It can take a while to get settled. It's been 2 1/2 years since we moved and I still have about 4 boxes that haven't been unpacked.

Stainless steel here is the generic version then I will tell you how to find the answers for any surface you need cleaned. Without causing damage. There are different gauges of steel when you have a stainless steel sink. This is why it is confusing to clean, the better gauges have different cleaning instructions. What To Avoid: Do not use cleansers that contain acids or alkalis; other strong acids (denture cleanser, photography, developing liquids) can also damage the surface of stainless steel. Bleaches containing hypochlorite can damage the surface of the material and increase staining. Do not leave soaps, cleaners, foods (citric juices, mustard, mayonnaise, pickles, vinegar, salt, etc...) to dry or prolonged periods, can cause pitting and corrosion. Do not leave rubber mats, wet sponges, cloths or cleaning materials sitting in the sink. If it is a sink do not use steel wool.Rub in the direction of the grain when cleaning stainless steel.Do not leave it wet. Do not clean it with abrasive cleaners.Water can leave a salt residue if it is a sink you need to dry it each time.Do not use vinegar to clean it.Bar keepers friend can be used on some stainless especially if you have water spots. Rub in the direction of the grain. Rinse and dry. You can use a blue scotch pad for more aggressive stains. Again rub in the direction of the grain. Okay now I am a big believer of cleaning the right way. To find the right way of cleaning your appliances you Google the name. Whirlpool Stainless Refrigerator Cleaning Guidelines . Or the name of the manufactor and appliance. I clean for a living. Most of the DIYer's have some wonderful idea's about cleaning. And it may fit their appliance. Like stainless steel there are many different cleaning methods but it is also based on gauge. May some can put bleach in the water of a stainless sink and it works on cleaning it. On mine It would ruin. My sink because it is not as high grade of stainless. Before I clean anything new at anyone's house I pull up the guidelines and use them. If it is granite and you don't know who the manufactor is there is the Marble Institute and they tell you how to find out to clean it without damaging your surfaces. Floors google here is a sample. Engineered wood flooring cleaning guidelines. This takes the guess work out. It tells you how to safely clean your surfaces and gives you green cleaning methods.
