A Shelf Made From An Old Farmhouse Door

The ideas for using old farmhouse doors for something new are endless. Upcycling is easy if you like things rustic, and if you do not, it may take a little more time to complete your project, but worthwhile in the end.
The farmhouse door was heavy and bulky to hang on the wall, but we anchored it secure and are happy to say we have had some good comments on it. Mainly our four adult children all want one in varying colors. Well, of course, I directed them to the tutorial below!First, we lightly sanded off paint chips that were loose trying to preserve as much paint as possible.
We measured the width of the door, which was 24 inches. We wanted the shelf to be wider than the wall bracket board. Considering the width of the base of the saw and the panels on the door we decided to cut the door so there would be an 11 piece and 13 piece.
Then we clamped a straight edge board at the point we wanted to saw considering the width of the base to the blade. Then John ran the saw base against the edge of the board for a straight line. We did it this way so we could keep the hinge and knob on the farmhouse door.
Finally, John installed three old brackets with 1 1/4 black drywall screws. Voila!

I used my little wagon as the shelf. It holds the USB cables that my grandkids use when they're at the house (also the UNO cards).
