How do a paint a fan light

I'm recently retired and new to "DIY". I've got a ceiling fan light globe that I took down and washed ~ to my surprise the paint was on the inside and washed off! I'd like to paint it. Doesn't have to match the top part as I'm sure if I wash it, the paint will just "dust off" like the globe. Thanks for any help.
Paint was on outside and just washed ~ dusted off!

If you do not want it to match...that is what is does now. Any "normal" type of paint will block the light coming out. You might have better luck by tinting it with a bit of diluted stain.

Thanks KMS- Don't really use the light so staining may be an option.

What color are you going for? Was looking through Pinterest Ideals and one was about turning clear glass to look like see glass. Food dye and elmers glue. Maybe if you want a brown instant coffee and elmers glue or something like that.

Found this after a little research http://www.overstock.com/guides/how-to-change-the-look-of-your-ceiling-fan To create a diffused color effect, mix acrylic paint and water, and then brush the mixture on the inside of the glass with a sponge brush. Let it dry completely and then re-attach the glass to your ceiling fan.

I was also going to suggest the glue & food dye for a sea glass effect. Practice on an empty jar.

In the rent house I just moved into last fall, there was a white glass fixture and a clear one in the same style. I took them down and washed them, then used a couple light coats of inexpensive white spray paint on the clear one. Just enough to cover and diffuse the light. Worked great! Now they look like they are both the same, and no loss of light. Nothing ventured, nothing gained!

Eileen - this is an AMAZING site, and if I don't use it for the light I'm definitely going to do some of the jars, bottles. They will make wonderful vases to give with my farmers market cut flowers. Thanks so much for finding and sharing this!
