maybe a lunar moth? Hard to see,
HUMMINGBIRD MOTH ???????????- DEFINATELY NOT A LUNA
It's about 1 1/2 inches long, think he damaged or lost a wing on his left side or something. I can only tell a hummingbird moth when it's in flight, lol.
Could be a bogong moth, looks fairly large.
looks very similar to the hummingbird moths I get around the petunias at dusk...
Here's a link that might help you identify the moth. Various moths look similar, I cannot determine which one it might be. http://www.google.com/search?q=large+moths+michigan&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=ir_iUbW0GsKjiAK7sYDoDA&sqi=2&ved=0CC8QsAQ&biw=1280&bih=596
Looks like a sphinx moth--lunas are huge and pale green...
Thanks! I thought it was closest to a sphinx, although I couldn't find an exact match to any of the pics.
It does look a bit like a sphinx or hummingbird moth. Here's one nectaring in one of my Angel's Trumpet. Maybe you can tell if it's the same as the one you found.
