Mulching with wood uses up the nitrogen in the soil

how much nitrogen needs to be added to a perennial garden when mulching with pine wood chips?

    According to Ohio State University, Bonnie, "Mulches derived from the bark of mature softwood trees, such as cypress and pine, are quite resistant to decomposition by microbes and thus have little effect on nutrient availability."
