How To Make A Bird Bath - For Free!
After seeing a colorful, ceramic, *expensive* bird bath online, she realized she had something very similar right in her china cabinet that she never used. She put it in the garden, perched on a stepping stone, and "Ta Da!" Free, beautiful bird bath!
We all surely must have a lovely ceramic bowl or vintage glass baking dish that we could put on an old stump, inverted flower pot, or garden table and make the birdies a nice cool spot. The best thing is, it is so easy to bring inside to wash! I've done this too. Tho.' for a bird bath it is better to keep it elevated - away from predators. During our summer just gone (Sydney, Australia 2019-2020), it was extremely, hot, dry with severe water restrictions. Could only water using buckets. When I was watering my ferns out the back, under the pergola (water saved in a large plastic container, under the drain pipe), I spilled a tiny bit, and within seconds a very small gecko darted out from no where and was lapping at the spilled water. He would have only been about an 1-1/2 long. Just goes to show you. If you want to put a container of water on the ground, other than for the birds, and/or decoration, what I did was put some natural rocks next to and in the container (which was under some front door plantings) mainly for decoration; and within a very short space of time I had attracted the local brown frogs. And they have been visiting my water/fairy garden for years now. I'd attach a photo but it is quite dim, and would be difficult to see.
