How do I paint this teak table?

Hello,
I purchased this table with chairs I plan to spray the chairs a gold colour and paint the table perhaps cream? How hard would this be to do and does anyone know the process? Thanks in advance.

Please don't do the gold...That would be tacky. If you want to do a bold color I would do a jewel color such as ruby red, a deep blue, deep teal, or something like that. I would stain the table top a darker stain such as cherry mahogany color then paint the base a creamy white.

Honestly I would not paint a teak table. I would just clean it up with teak oil.

If you decide to paint I would opt for a paint sprayer versus paint spray because this project would require a lot of paint and paint spray can be runny. So 1st you lightly sand off the current varnish. Then wipe down with a damp cloth. Then evenly spray paint. The color you choose is totally a personal preference and should reflect you and yours. Teak is really tricky to paint. It must be sealed well before painting or the oils from the teak will continually come through the paint. We lived on a sailboat for many years and painted the teak rails to cut down on maintenance. But, as I said, it had to be sealed well first.

Are you certain this is teak? It appears to have the grain and style of oak.

I agree the table in the picture looks more like Oak. The painting/ staining of Oak and Teak are different as Teak is more difficult to get a good paint job. If it is Oak the grain is harder to hide. Using a paint sprayer would give you a nicer finish than a paint plush. Good luck.

I've never seen this style of furniture made out of teak so I'm wondering ... are you certain it is really teak? If so, it would be a real shame to paint it as many people collect (and prize) their teak pieces. If you really hate it, I'd try to sell it and look for a cheaper wooden set to paint. The advice given above re teak is good to follow.
