The front of my house is ugly. Ideas?

I am looking to update the front of the house. Mainly the porch/cubby area. Suggestions for the lighter color brick area (its fake brick attached to pieces of plywood)? Paint? Siding? New windows and screen door are needed. As seen in the pictures, the cubby and garage are cement that need to be painted. Also the stucco by the windows need something too. Open to colors suggestions and ideas. Thanks!

I would paint the real brick and stucco the same color and then paint the fake brick a coordinating color to have a cohesive look. Paint the front door a color that would pop. Plant some flowers and bushes and it would be a really cute house. You could also add shutters to windows on right and add window boxes on the windows

I would plant some annuals and paint the brick in the front of the house . On the other side put a plant that would grow over your brick wall and spay paint the chairs and put a nice old vase and spay paint it with brigth colors. Also paint the front door. Buy some annuals from someone who needs to get rid of some.Plant a nice rose bush at the left corner of the house.

I would paint the fake brick and stucco something close to the real brick color -- a few shades darker. Sorry, but the cubby is just weird -- I might try to cover it over *or* paint the back and sides of it a darker shade or a lighter shade -- add a cool plant in a pot that "pops" or a sculpture. A porch and landscaping (if in the budget) would add so much.

I would look for inspiration from Houzz.com "exterior" photos and also ThisOldHouse.com. Find something you like. With paint samples for exterior, make sure you look at the paint in the sunlight. For plantings, and depending how low maintenance you want, I would suggest "dwarf" bushes. Seems like a handrail is needed for your entrance stairs for safety. Just find pictures of something similar and that you really like and it will come together. Good luck.

I suggest faux stone on the garage and façade where the picture window is. If that's too expensive, I would definitely paint both areas with a gray/green sagey color. I would also paint the bottom perimeter that's concrete, a darker color. For the cubby, how about some ivy growing in there? Otherwise, definitey paint a lighter color and place a large plant in there in a big pot, hang some wrought iron art near the top, add annuals in front and around the large potted plant. Remove the awning over the picture window and get shutters. Go to a thrift store to get these, as they are expensive. Don't worry about the color. You can spray paint them. Paint the white door frame the same darker color as the bottom concrete. That cubby area could look like a real standout with those additions to it. Paint the area where the front door and two windows are a different color to add dimension. Good luck!

Had a little time .... ;) (Top windows with white siding or paint white) Paint for other areas. and stone siding panels for around garage and lower part of house. maybe?

1. Porch across entire front of house. 2. Change entrance:. Double door with side-light windows. 3. Landscaping! 2 Junipers framing the big window; water garden where the rock garden is now; perennials between the junipers with red mulch. 4. Paint window frames slate gray. Enjoy!

Style-sack is right about the house number. You HAVE to have a house number, so 911 can find you! My idea was to put large numerals in a style you like on the upper back wall of the "cubby", with solar lights shining on them. Then put a couple of shelves of different heights made to fit in there, so you have 3 levels to put low-maintenance plants on.

I would either paint the cement lowest area of the house. I love white/off white paint with navy or light gray. I would surround the windows with a 4-6" board of a cement board and paint it the accent color of gray or navy. I would then paint the garage the same color of the main part of the house and then use the same 4-6" frame around the garage door. I would use bright green landscaping with pops of annual flowering plants or even colorful foliage. I didn't notice the color of the roof, but that might guide you to the color of the trim. Just my thoughts.

We looked at your house as "prospective buyers", and thought about what we would do. First thing, paint the entire house, including the cubby, one color to "unify" everything. As it is now, it looks as if the different sections were cobbled together separately. Use a pretty contrasting /complimentary trim color. Put shutters on either side of the big window. Plastic shutters are inexpensive, can be painted any color and look great. You mentioned getting new windows, but unless they are in really horrible shape, save that money, for now, and get your porch enlarged, even a little. The porch would be stunning with 2 columns, either round or square columns. For safety, the porch needs stair railing, & maybe some inexpensive wooden railing around the porch. As it is, it's a tremendous accident waiting to happen! Remove or replace the storm door, or paint it. Paint the front door a beautiful, stand out color. I can really see your house becoming very attractive! (Some shrubbery would be nice, too.) That cubby could be really cute "decorated" for each season. There are tons of cute ideas on pinterest.
