Thrift Shop Dresser Into a Coastal Makeover

I found an ugly chest of drawers at the thrift shop at such a bargain that couldn't be passed up.
I didn't have any idea what to do with it.

Since drawer handles looked like boat cleats, I decided to do a coastal makeover.

So I grabbed some paint, sandpaper, tools, and some rope.

I also decided to use a flea market purchase I had stashed... seagull wall art, to incorporate into the design.

I also used some old cabinet knobs from another makeover.

I painted the dresser in a coastal blue. Then painted the gulls, knobs, drawer pull, and rope in white. Followed by attaching the hardware and the gulls.

To apply the gulls, I drilled holes into the thickest part of them; measured them to drill holes through the drawers; applied wood glue; and then screwed them onto the drawer.

Since the original layer of paint was white, the next layer of paint (thrift shop condition) was dark blue, then my layer of blue paint, and the final layer of white paint was applied, the distressing with sandpaper created a great effect.

After sanding for a seashore distressed look, it all came together.

Just made me a fan of distressed. It took something this eye appealing to convince me that distressed could be artistically appealing. Nice job.
