Gnome Sweet Home DIY Kids Craft

Hello Hometalk Friends! Are you looking for a fun DIY project to craft with your child or grandchild this summer? When my five year old grandson came for a visit recently, I planned several kid friendly crafts, but the Gnome Sweet Home we created ended up being his very favorite! Come see how we made it...

A few months ago, I found this log like container at a yard sale, thinking I’d use it for flowers. Here's an affiliate link for a similar one, if you prefer to shop online: click here!

However, when I saw it laying on its side, I was inspired to place it in the garden, snug up against a tree for Ginger Grand to discover and that’s when the magic began. He was excited when I suggested we find some flowers and branches for the gnome home's entrance.

Like the log planter, I collected most of the trinkets like the tiny picket fence, ladybugs, miniature garden chair and the small play mat we used, from yard sales and of course you could do the same. However, just in case you’re not a yard sale person or you prefer to shop online, I found similar products on Amazon. (More links at the bottom of the post.)

We used Tacky click here! to secure the ladybugs, fence, chair and Mr. Gnome to the mat. Incidentally, the gnome was my only non-yard sale purchase and I found him at Hobby Lobby.
While we created several projects for Ginger Grand to take back home, I thought this would be a fun one to add to whenever he visits. GG arranged ladybugs throughout the garden and we added a sign. I asked if he thought it would be fun to write Gnome Sweet Home instead of the usual Home Sweet Home, which he thought was hilarious! He giggled when I wrote it and every time the project came up during his stay, he would laugh and say "GNOME sweet home!"
