I have to admit that this was not my idea---the making of a solar chandelier or sconce. But, the finished product is my version!
I had this old chandelier from the 70's and I had a lot of old solar lights. I ordered new batteries ($1 a piece on Amazon). I cleaned up the metal as it was a bit rusty and cut the electrical wire off. Cleaned up the solar lights as well.
I then cut the metal stakes in half and glued them inside the electrical sockets using E6000. E6000 worked great as I tried super glue and it didn't work! I used pieces of cardboard to keep the stake centered.
I let the stakes dry overnight and then started painting. I hung the chandelier from a wire and just started spraying paint. I painted the original chain as well.
I decided early on that I didn't want the solar caps to be bronze metal so I spray painted them as well. I covered the solar panel with painter's tape and carefully peeled it off.
Since this was a work in progress I decided I would use some glass stones to give some bling. I also used the stones inside the plastic solar cups so there was something shiny to reflect the light. The stones just happened to match my paint: Gloss Seaside
Not sure if you can see that I glued the stones around the top of the chandelier and used one stone to cover where the electrical wire used to be. At first the stones were sliding off the metal but I just kept sliding them back until they were tacky and stayed put.
For now I am going to hang my solar chandelier from a wrought iron bench that sits on my patio. This particular bench has a high arch on it. I also purchased from the dollar store Fourth of July solar lights that I was going to use for the holiday. There are different solar lights that will fit my stakes so I can change out the look . A few years ago I purchased solar tulips and they would look good as well. Unfortunately, I only bought 3! Looking forward to enjoying the ambience at night that lighting brings to the patio.
