Jewelry Armoire Redo

I have this fantastic jewelry armoire that I'm dying to redo. I already have it disassembled and sanded, but am torn on what to paint it. I'm kind of obsessed with trying that glazed metallic look, and think that technique would make this piece spectacular. Thoughts??

I want to. I guess the worst that can happen is that it looks awful, and I just re-sand and repaint it, right?

I agree; try it. If you don't like it you can always re-do it. Maybe a milk wash..

Only a opinion and suggestion Robin, I have a jewelry armoire and i was thinking that maybe a distressed red, or distressed olive green.

I have a similar jewelry armoire in light oak with long legs. I don't use it for jewelry anymore and I recently moved it into our master bathroom to hold a lot of the little things like face creams, bandaids, deodorant etc. The golden oak doesn't match but I like the added storage. Everytime I go in I thing about what I'm going to do to it.. I was thinking an off white milk paint for the chippy look. I've never used milk paint before though. I may experiment on old pieces of wood first.

If you use chalk type paint, it will look fantastic and there's no need to sand or prep. The paint has "tooth" and will adhere to almost any surface. It distresses easily with water and/or a light sanding. You will love it.

If the metallic looks too gaudy when done, paint a light coat of black over it and sand enough to let some of the metallic show through. Or another color or you could rub it with that tinted wax.

I have a tall narrow lingerie armoire similar to that. It was an ugly kind of cream/beige color and the edges were all painted metallic gold. I painted it a really pretty soft aqua, then lightly sanded over the edges to let the gold show through in the distressing. It came out SO great and I get compliments on it all the time. Painting a small piece of furniture a popping color is awesome because it's not overwhelming in the room but adds some fun and life. Good luck! Would love to see after pics!

Can you remove the drawer pulls?? If so .. sand em up and spray paint them ! Love metallic paint look ! Can do matte paint on the outside with high gloss or metallic paint on the trims and drawers !!!! Just throwing some ideas out !

The hospice where my husband works was having a fundraiser and I painted a small end table with homemade cream colored chalk paint for the sale. I wanted it to really stand out so after the chalk paint was dry I mixed a color called champagne gold paint into clear wax. It turned out beautiful. The champagne gold was the small bottles you can buy at a craft store. It wasn't as yellow as a true gold more like a soft creamy gold. Something like that would look nice if you're on the fence about metallic.

I think @Anna Marie A talked me into the red. I'm gonna glaze it with a thin coat of walnut stain and get new hardware, because one of the small handles is broken. I will most definitely post after pics.

I have one that the pulls will not come off...if you redid them, can you tell me if they have to be pryed off, they won't unscrew. Some are broken and I bought replacements but can't put them on until i can take the old ones off,,,help!
