Easy Makeup Brush Holder: A Quick and Simple Upcycle

Keeping those makeup brushes clean and neat finally happened with this easy upcycle project. The secret that made it work...it's in the jar!
I love to upcycle cast-offs, especially those I find at the thrift store for sometimes mere pennies. That was the case with this cute little glass jar. I found it over a year ago when I was searching for the perfect vase for a fun fall project. After it served it's purpose, I wasn't sure what to do with it, but since I had spent a whopping dime on it, I decided I'd find some use for it eventually and on the shelf with the empty vases it went.
Until one day I decided I needed a new plan for my makeup brushes. Storing them in a travel bag worked to keep them clean, but finding the right one was a daily fumbling exercise. Plus, I wanted to store them so they could rest better without being pressed against each other. That's when I remembered that little jar.
I needed something to give the brushes a little stability within the jar - to hold them in place so they wouldn't all crowd together, yet could be easily used over and over without wearing out. Beans! Dry beans were the perfect solution and the project was ready to go.
I started by giving the jar a quick swipe with rubbing alcohol to remove any fingerprints - a great idea when painting glass. Next I gave it 2 coats of lavender Rustoleum Painter's Touch spray paint. Finally, for durability, I gave it a coat of clear sealer.
I filled the jar with beans, settled the brushes into them and... Voila! A simple, inexpensive, effective storage jar for makeup brushes. Perfect!
