Update old lawn ornaments with paint to give them a whole new look! Let your kids' imaginations run wild & turn weathered ornaments into whimsical new showpieces in your yard.
Plaster toad, worse for wear
The Florida weather has not been kind to my plaster toad and he was looking pretty bad. And since my daughter always told me she thought he was creepy-looking, I suggested my girls give Mr. Toad a make-over!
Paint supplies to repaint toad
So, we gathered up leftover latex and acrylic paints, assorted bottles of nail polish (because we have lots of those!), and a black Sharpie. The latex paint is (affiliate link)Valspar satin interior. The color is Lime Mousse :) It was left over from when we re-did the kids' bathroom to add more storage.
Before and after painting toad
They spread out newspapers and gave the toad a base coat of the latex paint and after that dried, they decorated his spots and eyes with the acrylic paint and nail polish. Then they outlined his wrinkles and lines with the Sharpie to make them more noticeable.
Whimsical new look of our plaster toad
They think he looks fantastic and I must admit, with his whimsical new look, he really livens up our front garden. :)

So, if you have old lawn ornaments that have not weathered well, let your kids' imaginations run wild and give those old ornaments a new look. They will feel proud of their project, and you might discover it looks better now than it did before!

You gave it so much life! How fun. My grandma keeps frog statues all over her garden and would love this!
