Lock the pets and kids in the house. Wet the area to be cleaned, pour domestic grade bleach over a 12 foot square area in large droplets, brush well with a stiff brush. White foamy suds will appear, leave them for 15 minutes. Have one more brush on the area then spray away with a hose pipe and cold water. Repeat every six months! Cheap and it works.

Try power washing. You can probably rent a machine. Beware of the extremely high pressured water stream. Don't aim it at anyone!

Powerwash, as others have suggested, works wonders on concrete stains and soil. Borrow one from neighbor, friend or relative if you haven't one of your own.

GHS now belongs to the Shelby County School District. Few kids from Germantown attend it....they mainly go to private schools or the newer Houston high on Wolf River Pkwy. The county refuses to let Germantown Municipal Schools purchase the 3 G scoops they kept to spite Germantown. It's been a nasty political mess.

It is called a pressure washer and they are available for as little as $80. Do NOT use any chemical strong enough to di a good job unless there is no vegetation near. The PW will also come in handy for washing cars, bikes, decks, flower pots, etc. Needed prior to re-painting many things.

    Power wash, of course.

I use an old floor polisher..remove buffing pads and use the brushes. Sprinkle dishwasher powder onto concrete, spray with water and start brushing, rinse with garden hose.

Thanks for all the helpful tips (I should have mentioned that we have used a power washer already and it did not clean it thoroughly)

If it's mildew or moldy stuff applying bleach first and then the pressure washer will get it off...I use a pressure washer on my wooden decks. They get mold that just won't come off easily unless I apply bleach first. you can experiment with the concentration but I use it straight from the store...

You don't mention what is on the concrete, that makes a big difference. You could do an acid bath. Ask your neighborhood pool company how to do it, and may or may not work for you depending on what is next to the cement. They would have ideas for you. As for the power wash, you often must go over some places multiple times. May you be blessed in ways you have not yet imagined. Pat

Mix equal parts Clorox and water. Pour it on the concrete or cement and just let it set. The next day you will have a clean walkway without the pitting that a power washer causes.

pool companies have stuff for cleaning concrete and more and then get a bucket of their paint for coating it to resist stains and mildew in the future. I always found though that bleach and a good heavy duty broom to scrub it works well. power washers are good but take a while if its a large area and rental is available at most hardware stores. Hope this helps

You don't have to use that much, just wash with plenty of water to make sure it is diluted
  • Kenneth Hanson Kenneth Hanson on Jul 13, 2016
Evelyn, just be sensible, try and keep all chemicals off your soil. The sprayed water dilutes the bleach after it has worked its magic in the patio.

A standard High Pressure water blaster that you can purchase at a hardware store needs no chemicals it simply connects to your out door tap.

No, it won't hurt at these concentrations but it's unnecessary with a pressure washer.
