What are these bumps on my tomato plant?

Went out and inspected my tomato plants that I have planted on the deck and found these raised spots on the stems. Are they insects?

No they are not insects. If you were to plant it further down in the ground roots would appear from these spots. Not really sure of the real name for this, I call them nodules. Don't worry if you start to see roots appear at these spots, will not hurt the plant.
