Making a Medieval Peasant Cottage - Easy and Fun

We had a medieval theme for Vacation Bible School this year and this turned out to be a great craft for the kids. It makes quite a permanent little structure, at least something that's not likely to get destroyed before it reaches home. We made these into 'piggy' banks. My blog post has a complete step-by-step tutorial.
I used a 5"x5"x5" box for this project, along with another piece of chipboard that was 5 1/2 x 9 for the roof, and another piece of cardboard 8 x 9 for the platform. I think next time I would use a 5 x 5 x 4 box instead, but this works
I used a product called Vimasco for the 'stucco' work. I think any good quality latex paint with a little added texture would work as well. I brushed it on in swirls. The timbers were painted dark brown. I also added a window box.
This is the roof piece, folded and with a 1 x 1 hole cut in it for the chimney (and for coins to fall into the house, making it into a bank.)
I but the two end flaps into triangles, then folded the sides in and hot glued the roof onto them. Coconut fiber from some old seedling pots was used for the 'thatch.'
The moss was also hot glued on. The whole house was hot glued onto the base and the base painted green. The chimney was a piece of black cardstock about 3 inches long, folded into a rectangular prism and glued in place. Paint stones.
