We renovated the main floor bathroom in our 1920's bungalow to a classic and feminine look. We replaced the old, boxed in plastic tub with a beautiful vintage clawfoot and made useful storage space out of a closet we found walled off behind an old cabinet.

Here is how our bathroom looked the day we moved into our home...

It's actually really hard to tell anything about this bathroom because it was SOOOO cramped. The shower and bathtub were a combination prefab plastic tub with plastic walls- The wall that you see in this picture jutting out in the middle of the bathroom is a simple plywood wall built to be the back wall of the shower.

This vanity is really large and made it impossible to open the door to the bathroom all the way. The previous owners also built the vanity over top of a floor vent- during demo we found that boards near the vent inside the bottom of this vanity were actually blackened and burned by the heat of the vent SCARY! It's a wonder the house didn't burn down.

The previous owners also built this storage cabinet- great in theory. However when we tore apart the cabinet we found a closet walled in behind it! Now we have a bathroom closet that takes 0 space away from the footprint of the bathroom.

I chose to install board and batten with a mosaic basket weave Carrara marble tile inset in the top panel on three of the walls and a feature wall of subway tile in a basket weave pattern. Both Carrara basket weave and subway tiles are are classic looks used in historical buildings- using them together was a no-brainer. Placing the subway tiles in a basketweave pattern is a modern twist on a classic look.

I chose a vanity with a Carrara top and under mount sink. The vanity came white but I painted it a dark charcoal grey.

I chose a 12x12 Carrara tile pattern with an inset mosaic "rug" look using the Carrara basketweave tile.

I found a vintage tub in AMAZING condition at a DAV thrift store 3 years ago, bought it and saved it up for this renovation. I painted the outside black and the legs gold for a pop of glam.

We chose a brass tub and shower fixture to match the sink and lighting.

In this photo you can see the door to the closet we exposed. It's so nice to have a closet access in the bathroom that doesn't take up 4 square feet + of floor space.
