Revamped Chest of Drawers From Roadside Freebie

Hi, I found this chest of drawers on the kerb for throw out. It had a 'free' sign on it, so I got hubby to pick it up and put it in the back of the hatchback. I gave it a good sand, clean and two coats of oil based undercoat to cover the felt pen doodles and stickers that were all over it, then hit it with a blue, water based paint, which I mixed with white to make the different shades effect. This is now being used as a chest of drawers in a little boys bedroom.
After - ombre painted effect in shades of blue
Before - grubby and with felt pen drawings all over it

Cher, thanks so much for your kind comments. The colour was 'Commander Blue' in an aquanamel (water based paint). I used a couple of small cheap plastic pails with lids from the hardware store to mix the shades. That way you can ensure to mix sufficient of each shade and put the lid on for painting the second coat the next day. If you don't mix enough and run out, it is hard to get the exact shade again. Good idea to test the shades on a piece of cardboard or newspaper first before applying them to ensure there is just enough difference to make a subtle change through the piece. The back and sides of this chest are painted in the darkest of the blues. The drawers were then lined with pale blue paper as there was some evidence of water damage to the lower drawers. Made it look nice and clean and fresh.
