When it comes to plastic bags we mostly just think about how to store plastic shopping and grocery bags. But there are also many other kinds of plastic bags that we can purchase and use in our households on a daily basis. We can buy different sizes of freezer bags that come with twist ties. We can also buy all kinds of re-sealable bags that come in different sizes and are designed for different uses.
Even though I use reusable shopping bags for most of my shopping I always seem to end up with a collection of plastic shopping bags. I like to hang on to some of them and the rest go into the recycling bin. But the ones I hang onto need to be stored somewhere and somehow. I was never a fan of the sew your own fabric storage bags or the popular storage container you can buy at IKEA because I found them to be quite bulky and not that convenient to work with.
I also like to have a collection of purchased plastic bags. They too are handy to have around for both food and non-food storage. The problem I have with these bags is the packaging comes in all different sizes making it difficult to conveniently store. I also have a very small drawer that can only hold a few items like plastic wrap, foil, wax paper and a package of re-sealable sandwich bags. As a result, I had to come up with an alternative idea to store all of my shopping and purchased plastic bags.
I love using plastic drawers. They are easy to clean and they make good use of storage space.

These are two plastic drawers that nicely stack on top of each other.
They are pretty plain looking so I decorated them with black and white polka-dot patterned washi tape. I made a label ‘Shopping Bags’ for the top drawer and a second label ‘Clear Bags’ for clear bags that you end up with when shopping.
I purchased another plastic three drawer unit to store my other plastic bags. I also decorated each drawer with the same washi tape and made a label for the different types of purchased plastic bags that I like to buy and use.
Notice that I took the re-sealable bags out of the packaging making it much more convenient to store and access.
I store these plastic drawers on a shelf in my pantry. They were inexpensive to buy and easy to make attractive. They take up a bit of room on the shelf but they do not stick out like the fabric or IKEA versions. This idea for storing plastic bags in plastic drawers can also work in a cupboard. But what is most important for me after using this system for years is this system for storing plastic bags is so convenient to use every day!

Cute idea. Are the drawers difficult to open? Do you pull out the entire drawer when you want a bag or will they stay stacked? I think this would be a great idea for my pantry.
