Are those Mexican hat flowers in your last picture. I think they're so cute. I tried growing them but had no luck...

@Ann S I've never grown cantaloupe before, but the first time I grew pumpkins I hand pollinated them with a paintbrush. You just get a little bit of the stuff from the male flower onto your paintbrush and put it on the female ones. With pumpkins you could tell the females from the males because they had a little bump under the flower. I wonder if your problem has something to do with them being right next to the cucumbers? Maybe the bees prefer the cucumbers? @Douglas Hunt might know?

Ann, did you see Catherine's comment about the cantaloupes just taking longer? She knows a lot more about grow vegetables than I ever will.

HI neighbor- we are north of you, and our cantelopes are flowering like crazy, with only one melon so far- the cukes are going nuts. The cantelopes just take a little bit- soon you should have so many that you'll be giving them away!

My cantaloupe are deflating dying before they mature, we've only gotten one so far, will not be growing these again, but it was a good learning experience. I have found a recipe to make pickles from my cucumbers & everyone loves them. The 1st batch I followed the directions & they came out to be sweet to bread & butter ones which I didn't like but many of my friend & family did. So I made a 2nd batch & changed the recipe & I got a dill / slightly sweet pickle that I really love & so did everyone else. So next yr will be growing my own dill to go with my cucumbers for I have a big hit here on them!
