Leather isn't usually the first thing that comes to mind when you think of coastal decor, but when we teamed up with the Leather Hide Store for July's Monthly DIY Challenge I was determined to make something that perfectly fit our neutral, weathered, coastal decor as well as show off the beautiful leather I received. By making a distressed plank background, this monogram sign came out just as I envisioned and with a cool slightly masculine edge.

I used a wine cork monogram that a friend made for our wedding because it was the perfect size and font for this, but use any sort of large monogram you can find or print.

I traced the M in chalk on the backside of the hide and cut it out with some good scissors. The edges don't have to be perfect since the nailheads will cover up alot of it.

I cut the boards to 20" with my miter saw then distressed them with my favorite technique and screwed them to a couple boards on the back. I centered the monogram and started hammering the furniture nails along the edge.

We LOVE how it came out and until the husband takes it up to his office, it looks perfect up on our newly updated mantel!
