its very pretty, very heavy, and I was thinking it would make a beautiful stand to......something?? Its just a little over a foot tall. Its has a shiny smooth finish and I wasn't sure if I could paint it or not. Would the paint stick to it or peel off??

If you clean it well, I bet you can easily find a spray paint made for metal that will work beautifully. Alternatively, you could use a little gorilla glue to wrap it with cording or even lace to make it really unique.

I haven't considered the lace or cording ideas! Another idea to ponder! Thanks Mikki!

I really like the vintage looks, I'm wondering if I could do some distressing on it. It has a lot of detail on it & I think it would look great, just not sure it would last. Any thoughts?

Rustoleum makes a metal spray primer. Then you could paint it any color you wanted. I would install a round glass 'tabletop' on it and use it as a pretty plant stand or small side table.

The Rustoleum Spray Primer and spray paint would prevent the rust. If you want to attach, say a bowl to the candlestick, be sure to use a waterproof glue such as Marine Goop. I'd be thrilled to see a picture of what you do with it!

if it's hollow you can make it into a lamp - which is great solution. I paint metal all the time and the rustoleum is about $4 a can at Home Depot. I really like the metal finishes as well....let us see what you do!

Hey Donna! Thank you so much for replying! Actually, it is not hollow. :( I did have an idea of putting a bowl/pot/dish of some sort on top & making a little bird bath (or something similar). I'm still exploring options but I will definitely let you know! In the meantime, if you have any other ideas, they are still very welcome!!

How about a birdbath or bird feeder? You can epoxy a chicken feeder to the top for a bird feeder or use a platter of some sort for the birdbath.

Sam, I was having that very idea! A bird bath or something like that. Will the cast iron hold up out in the weather though? I'm afraid if its out in the weather, especially holding water, it will be prone to rusting easily.....

Many years ago - (more than I'd care to say)! - I combined an old, tall wooden candleholder with a pewter-looking -(but actually purchased at a Christmas Tree Shop for @ $3.00) - charger to make a very cute plant stand. I sanded the candleholder, stained it with a silvery-gray stain - (Walmart -- @ $2.00 - $3.00 for the smallest can) - and attached it with Gorilla Glue. It held up beautifully for over 10 year at which time I passed it on to a niece. (I have to admit, tho', that reading some of the other responses have inspired me to round up the same items again and try one of the other uses mentioned)!

Jeanne I actually looked at some charges yesterday & started thinking along that line, but I never considered a plant stand! Great idea!

Glue a metal tray or glass plate on top for a display stand for cupcakes, etc!

Cathi, I saw a picture similar to your idea, I think it was holding cookies. It was so cute! But I do have 4 small grandbabies aging 8 months to 10 years, three oldest are boys, very roudy boys! I'm so afraid it would get knocked over if I baited it with sweets!
