Re-purposed Pallet Racking to Lofted Bed..."Little Man Cave"...

My son's bedroom is REALLY small...so we decided to loft his bed to make more space. By re-purposing pallet racking and a metal corn crib ladder, we created a fun industrial vibe that will grow with him. He might even take it to college for his dorm room someday :)
Pallet racking to lofted bed.
My engineer husband re-visited his dorm days for his sturdy design. He started by building a box for the mattress from 1X8 boards.
The box was attached to the studs in the wall and then attached to the pallet racking uprights.
The under side of the box was made with 2X4's to hold the mattress.
We attached barn tin to the underside to hide the bottom of the mattress.
A ladder from an old corn crib adds access...and coolness.
For safety railings we repurposed a cupboard door painted to match the bed box. We cut the corners off to remove the sharp edges.
The door is attached with wing nuts so that it can be removed to make sheet changing a bit easier. This storage basket has hooks that hang over to store a few favorite "friends".

Plus, a chalkboard wall..."A Long Time Ago, in a Galaxy Far, Far Away" :)
If you can't move it, decorate it.
