My mother-in-law is a pottery mug collector. I've made her several 3 layer shelves or if one was really special I would make her a nice shelf for one. These are placed on the walls of her kitchen and family room. My suggestion would be to try Hobby Lobby unless you have a friend that can make them for you

If you have a lot, display only a portion at a time. 1). Less to wash to keep them clean if in an open display. 2). By rotating your display it will renew your appreciation for each one. 3). A limited display won't overwhelm the room, and allows room for other items to be noticed. A plate rail mounted on the wall, scaled to the depth of your mugs, can hold a nice selection. A mug tree or two can do the same, if you have counter/table space to spare. Hometalk recently featured a " between the studs" storage solution. This could work for your mugs as well. It's a bit more work, but doesn't jut out into the room when space is tight. If your traffic flow runs past an empty interior wall, this can be to your advantage.

I put cup hooks from the back bottom underneath my cabinets so they line the backsplash of my counters. They look cute, add color and are accessible at coffee time. They don't collect too much dust since they are under the cabinet. I group like sizes together. I have a lot of cabinets though. If you need more space than what you have cabinet-wise, maybe some pegs on the soffits above the cabinets could work. Have fun designing!

You could also find a mug tree or make one. Use a 1" X 1" piece of wood about a foot tall and drill holes on the sides. Put dowels in the holes, bur be sure to drill the holes on an angle. gle dowels in. Paint and enjoy.

Thanks to all that replied! I need to store the mugs inside a cabinet - not display them. Any ideas?

I store my mugs on shelves in my dinning Room. I collect odd looking and special mugs. My other mugs I store on a mug holder in the kitchen.

Glass fronted display cabinet or shelves will be good.
