Help! What am I? Do you recognize me?

Neighbors moved and left trash in the driveway between our houses. Went to clean it up and found 2 flower pots with some plants that had a couple of green leaves and 1 small sprout of something purple. Looked like they had not been watered for a long time. Dirt looked like West Texas during a drought in the middle of August, pretty darn dry. With a lot of TLC and routine watering, the leaves have started to grow and there are new sprouts of purple in the middle of the sets of leaves. Can anyone help identify them for me?
This is when I found the pots.
1 pot has short/squat blooms at the base of the plant.
The other pot has tall stems with the purple blooms on them.

I think that is a Hawaiian Ginger plant.
