Grain Sack Painted Leather Chair

When I realized I just didn't have the skills to recover this leather chair, and most likely no one would want to buy it in the condition that it was in, I decided to try out something I had never done before... paint the leather.
After all, I had nothing to lose... the chair was free.
So, I got out some Annie Sloan Chalk Paint and got to work.
I painted the chair with three coats of Old White. Once it was dry, I waxed it with clear wax and then added the stripes. After a last coat of wax, and a good buffing, it looks brand new!
Now, will the chair hold up to sitting on it every day, dogs, and kids? Only time will tell, but for now, it looks so much better than it did and it's not sitting in a landfill somewhere.
Head to the blog for more details and a fun little video of my 7 year old jumping on the chair!

claire, i had a rocking chair that i bought at a garage sale....just the seat and back were leather and the rest was metal...it was all black...well, i bought colortime white spray paint and went to town..needless to say, it was gorgeous! when i moved into a small apt, i really didn't have room for it, so i gave it to a friend...now i'm sorry, but she will not give it back....it's lasted about 4 yrs with that painted leather before the seat split and i had to redo it....so, i'm sure yours will do well...i wouldn't let kids jump on it though...good luck!

Yes but I'll be using a paint specifically made for leather. I paint my old cowgirl boots with it. It never cracks! I'm in bed and can't get up to find the name of the brand right now! I googled leather paint and ordered it online.
