How do you control door action on a built in medicine cabinet?

Built in medicine cabinet door opens toward the large mirror over our vanity area. Is there a fix to keep the cabinet door from banging into the mirror when it is opened? I am afraid I (or my 5 yr. old) will swing the door open and hit the mirror accidentally, because it swings all the way into the mirror when open. We have been unable to use it well. Thank you in advance for your help.

    You could try putting a hook on the inside of the cabinet and another hook on the door and tie a piece of string on the hooks, so the door can only open so far. The other alternative is to replace the hinges.

    We had this same problem with a single door medicine cabinet. We removed the cabinet from the space, flipped it upside down, placed back in the space and reattached. No one could tell we'd turned the cabinet upside down. Don't forget to remove the inside shelves if they are not permanently attached. If the screw holes don't line up, just drill new holes through cabinet into the studs, screw into place and your cabinet should be should good to go. (Our cabinet was rectangle shaped).

    Yup....some type of bummer added to the cabinet door is your easy-fix answer. It can be the silicone kind (not so obvious because it's clear) or even the soft kind (felt-like) one would use for under vases, lamps etc. to keep them from scratching the table top. I also really like A Crafty Mix's idea....at least until your 5 year old gets the hang of not banging the door too far open :-)

    we had the same problem; we took the door off and put it on the other side of the cabinet; just a matter of drilling new holes for the hinges;

    Determine how far you want the medicine chest door to open. Fold a length of good quality thin ribbon at one end and tack it to the top of the medicine chest. Fold the other end and tack near the top of the door on the hinged side of the door. This binding will only allow the door to open as far as you want it to open.

    Similar in thought, but ez, just buy a clear self stick paper crafting mount disk and place it on the inside of the door where the hinges are and that will keep it from openening too wide.
