CANA: After Flowers - Seeds??

SO the Cana this year grew REALLY WELL and SPREAD and is relatively easy, little effort this year, QUESTION is when the flowers fall off, and what APPEARS to me to be seed... do we cut the stem after the flower bloom dies, or do we leave it? IF that is seed, do I cut that off and store it? (I know Cana grows from Bulbs, but they must seed, right??)
Cana - grew well this year, 6 feet tall! LOTS of flowers on a daily basis.
Cana stems after flower blooms died off.....
Are THESE Cana SEEDS?? SHOULD I cut the stem after the flower blooms or just leave them alone?

All flowers produce seeds but Cannas are usually easily propagated from tuber division.

DeltaG: thank you. My Wife's plan is to dig the bulbs, split them, then plant the new Bulbs spread along the back of the fence area...... I'm thinking if they are seeds, I can try and propagate in the winter in my sunroom. Couldn't hurt, right??? SO, with the flowers gone from those stems with the seed., should I leave them and maybe NEW flowers from that same stem, or cut the stem and maybe new stems grow??

what until they dry out then store in cool dark place over winter can plant seeds in early spring or start them in a growing room or window in mid-Feb.

You can grow cannas from those seeds, Jim. Store them over the winter as David says, then start them indoors 6 to 8 weeks before your average last frost. You'll have better luck if you nick the seeds and soak them overnight in warm water; they germinate in 1 to 2 weeks.

Great! I figure even if it doesn't work for me, it can't hurt to try. PLUS I'm learning that maybe I need to scratch the seed. I'll research. Start in Sunroom in mid-Feb.... thanks again David.

thanks for the info I didnt know they even had seeds. I have to keep digging mine up they multiply over nite. lol

you will want to dig and store your Canna bulbs anyway... even if you got a plant started with the seeds they will take about 3 years to flower!

Bwlservs: thank you... didn't know that, but definitely good to know......... So question, when you say store the cana bulbs... we live in Southern VA and typically just leave them in the ground and they multiply and grow back each year, so i was thinking I could dig them, split them, and place all back in the ground so come spring they were already growing....... is that a bad way to do it?
