Why Isn't My Bittersweet Producing Berries?

I planted eight American Bittersweet vines about eleven years ago: male, female, male female, etc. about 8-10 ft. apart. The vines took right off climbing, and get bigger every year - they produce huge leaves, but no berries. What did I do wrong?

PS: I should mention that although my profile says I'm in NC, I live in Upstate NY in the summer....where my B Sweet vines are. R. Adam Q, they don't produce flowers.

Hi R. Adam -- thank you so much for all that info! As I mentioned, I planted them eleven yrs. ago - 2002. I've never pruned them either. Pretty sure they came from either Spring Hill or Breck's (sister companies) and after I planted them, I removed the male/female tags. The entire batch was allegedly "American" so as far as I know, they weren't mixed with any Oriental vines. The directions did say to plant alternate male/female, which I did.
