Giving 'oomph' to stairway walls

Question

My stairs go up the center of the house so have walls on either side. Its a dark space so will buy light-coloured wallpaper. At the moment have photos all over the walls {a project I did a few years back} but am wondering if anyone has
any ideas to give a little 'oomph' to this area.  Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure if there's a handrail on the walls (I'm assuming there is?) but you could put some string lights on the handrail for some extra lighting.

do NOT wallpaper your stairway, it will cost a fortune.  Paint it a light color and then add the small motion detector lights down by the steps, or hire an electrician to put in a cool list fixture.

wallpaper is so expensive to begin with, instead paint the walls a light color and try a stencil. If you don't rearrange a lot you could mark where your pictures hang and stencil where they would be with a border stencil. You can also buy a tree stencil if the wall is family photos . I agree with the others, don't waste your money wallpaper!  Paint the walls a brighter color and play with the lighting.

Paint is cheaper and can be replaced more easily.  See if an electrician can hang pretty lights down the stairwell.  Rather than lots of photos, I'd stick to a few larger art pieces.   Personally, I don't like to stand in the middle of a stairwell looking at photos.  It's just not comfortable.
