I think you can smell or tell if they are treated with a chemical. Most of the ones I have seen are not treated.

Most are not treated. They're just for transport and no reason to be treated. There may chemical spills from factory deliveries. I personally have not ran across any treated pallets.

Some pallets are treated for special transportation. I have a board on pinterest that explains everything about pallets I will get a couple of them and see if I can get them posted here for you, and if you wanted to join pinterest its all free and you can find out everything you need to know about pallets

I've never seen a treated pallet. They are made very cheaply that's why you often find them for free.

Thank you! I sorta wondered, but one time I saw someone comment that they are treated, and I didn't think so, thank you Jean!

Some are treated some aren't. I wouldn't rely on the smell test as many pallets aren't new and any smell could have dissipated but the chemical remains in n the wood. I'd Google "how to tell if pallets are chemically treated" or even something like "how to use pallets in projects". I've seen a lot of advice on pallet choosing at sites like that

Great answer OhSally because depending on where you get them can have alot to do with them being treated or not.
