Does anyone know how to replace the cord in a patio umbrella ???

You should be able to get some replacement "rope" at your local hardware store or home center. Then simply re-thread the path of the old cord. If the path goes through some tight internal spaces you may need to "lead" the route with some finer cord that is guided through with a small weight, needle of bit of wire.
