Down Home Southern Firepit

by Patricia Presto/On The Surface
My son had the idea to build a firepit ... Little did I know how hard it would be (cause I had to upgrade it as we went along - of course!) nor how rewarding! My son and I spent a lot of hours together along with my handyman to get it done. I loved this time with my son before he headed to senior year of high school. Time goes fast. We have spent lots of hours around the pit and have had many parties as well. Fun project long after finished!
Our new firepit!
It was all worth it! S'mores w/ friends & family~!
Created my design & started to dig up grass...in Georgia - that is hard enough! (red clay)...
Getting more hands to help!
Pouring rain but still digging!
Measuring so pavers are level
Paver design starting to be installed...
Tamping down pavers
Pavers complete - now for firepit!
This is tough work!
Admiring their project!
Almost done!
Beautiful results! Lots of good memories & more to come! :-)

@Patricia Presto/On The Surface Do the ground bricks actually go under the fire pit or just abutt it?
  • @Mary Richard We poured cement for ground of pit, surrounding it with fireproof bricking inside hole of pit (you ca see this if you enlarge your picture)...the pavers surrounded the cement (see wooden "set" ring around it). Then we built the stacked stone surround. so no "pavers" running underneath. I also bought a grate to put in pit at a stone yard..
