Living Room Mantel

I currently have a very large painting in the center over my mantel, some candles/pictures/vases on the mantel itself. I have a very large clock that I'm thinking of putting over the mantel instead, but would like to change/pare down what's on the mantel. Please note the mantel is a walnut color & the wall is paneled. My husband will not hear of changing that wall-I would paint it in a minute to match the rest of the room which is a golden/very, very light pumpkin color. Accessories are in the browns/rusts/tans... Any suggestions?
