Have you noticed that fringe is EVERYWHERE now? I’m LOVING it on shirts, swim suit tops, purses, you name it. I love it so much, in fact, that I decided to bring it into my home decor with this fun DIY! The best part… this project is NO SEW!
I grabbed one of my husbands plain white t-shirts, a plain white pillow, some scissors and some fabric glue – that’s it!
I started by cutting off the bottom of the shirt. By removing the hemmed part of the shirt, it made it quite a bit easier to cut the fringe.
Then I cut the fringe. I drew a line on the shirt measuring the same height as the pillow. I didn’t measure the fringe cuts exactly, I just eyeballed all the measurements and tried to keep them all about the same size. I cut all the fringe up to the line on the shirt.
After I was done cutting, I went through and pulled each piece of fringe. It makes the edges curl up a bit, making them look a bit more “finished”.
After all the strands were pulled, I took a highlighter and marked where I wanted to cut the fringe. I think the angled fringe is so cute – so I went for that look!
I cut along where I marked – and this is how it turned out. Loving it!
I took fabric glue and folded and glued the top edge down to give it a finished look.
Then I glued the whole piece along the top seam of the pillow.
That’s it! How easy, right?!

  • Would it be even easier to use the hem at the bottom of the T-shirt to be the finished top of the fringe? You could cut the shirt at the length you want the fringe and then cut towards the hem.

What what did you do to the top of the T-shirt? Did you cut the arms off?

Your fringed pillow looks PERFECT! Your choice of white-on-white was on-trend & beautiful! Even better next to the cobalt blue & white!! CONGRATS!

(Just a thought: Some DIY pillows I've seen look just plain sloppy, especially newly-covered ones where the underneath pillow design can plainly be seen through the cover-material! That should be a "no-no" no matter what type of pillow we're DIY-ing!)
