If you are in an area where you have lots of snow and ice during the winter months, leave it on your front porch and fill it with sand/salt for deglazing the driveway once you have cleared it. The salt won't get wet or clump as long as the lid is kept closed.

Garden clippings and like two people have said, I use mine for compost scraps, to keep your garden tools, I'm gonna put some wheels on some and use them to carry my compost to where I need to add it, I don't have a wheel barrel. They are great storage containers, or stools, even planters.

Like you, I live in the South & sometimes experience drought. Those are a manageable size for me to drill holes in the bottom & set at the base of small trees for slow, deep watering. Even if I have to refill a couple of times, it's better than standing there with my hose--or worse--forgetting that I left the hose on!

I have cat litter bucket, similar, but deeper. They hold charcoal, and I also put "ice melt" in it, with a couple charcoal briquettes to keep the moisture down. My husband kept the bird seed in them, too......in the garage.

I use them for all sorts of things. In the car for emergency cat litter which you can zip lock bag and still keep car fluids, tools, emergency blankets, etc in. Crochet yarn, overnight toiletries for when I am away from home, "ladies" things under the sink, the possibilities are endless!!

Good ideas...You could also let them air out for a while then donate them to a school for craft storage. IMO, I don't think I would use them for pet food storage, since they may not be food safe.

Lego's, a small set of tools to keep in a utility closet. In the south with the humidity as high as it is, this would be great for various tapes so the gum on them doesn't get destroyed via the humidity. Trunk storage? A waste basket for the car? We would use something like this to put various kinds of cords in. Sewing supplies/threads. Art supplies. Crayons or small toys for kids or grandkids to play with. They could easily be covered with contact paper, or painted to match with decor, or to look nice sitting somewhere. Cleaning rag storage. Emergency kits.
  • Kathy Kathy on Aug 11, 2016

I can't have enough of these. I keep fertilizer, lawn and plant food, pet waste (line with a plastic bag and you only have to empty once a week), potting soil, fragile Christmas ornaments, fabric scraps (we called the "rag bag" when we were little), I catch rain water to use on my indoor plants and steam iron, drop cloths, clean-up rags, edging tape, stirrers and other painting accessories, hats so they're not always tumbling down on the floor, I keep one in my trunk for the loose items I buy at the big box stores...

I'm sure any toddler would would have fun building structures with them. Remove the handles first however, so that little hands can not swing the containers around and hit other things.

I too use those for storing lots of items. I use them for clean rags, my grandkids toys, legos, matchbox cars, etc. BTW those buckets can be recycled. If you get too many you should ask your friends it they want any for storage use. Many uses for them.
