If you are in an area where you have lots of snow and ice during the winter months, leave it on your front porch and fill it with sand/salt for deglazing the driveway once you have cleared it.  The salt won't get wet or clump as long as the lid is kept closed.

Store garden tools inside and use it as a seat when gardening. You could add a cushion.

We  feed wild birds in our yard, so I use mine to store the bird seed that I by in bags.  It keeps a tight seal and I have no bug issues.

Garden clippings and like two people have said, I use mine for compost scraps,  to keep your garden tools, I'm gonna put some wheels on some and use them to carry my compost to where I need to add it, I don't have a wheel barrel. They are great storage containers, or stools, even planters.

I USE MINE TO STORE CANS OF SPRAY PAINT. IT CAN GET 6-8 CANS IN ONE AND IN OTHERS I STORE PAINT BRUSHES,SANDPAPER.\ ALSO GLOVER. KEEPS EVERYTHING IN ORDER IN ONE PLACE.

Like you, I live in the South & sometimes experience drought. Those are a manageable size for me to drill holes in the bottom & set at the base of small trees for slow, deep watering.  Even if I have to refill a couple of times, it's better than standing there with my hose--or worse--forgetting that I left the hose on!

I have cat litter bucket, similar, but deeper.  They hold charcoal, and I also put 'ice melt' in it, with a couple charcoal briquettes to keep the moisture down.  My husband kept the bird seed in them, too......in the garage.

Drill holes in the bottom , place  thin layer of gravel , top with garden soil. Plant lettuce  leaf lettuces once ripe you can pick just about every day for fresh salad.   or radishes  or any other short rooting veggies or even plant flowers.

I have a similar container and  I use it for bird seed.  I keep it In my shed and fill it full of birdseed and throw in a scoop, handy for filling my bird feeders.  I also have one in my
 pantry full of dry dog food and a scoop in it as well.

Good ideas...You could also let them air out for a while then donate them to a school for craft storage.  IMO, I don't think I would use them for pet food storage, since they may not be food safe.
