Some type of Palm ???

An elderly man gave me this plant a few years ago and this year is the first time it has bloomed .......I'm guessing it's because of so much rain this year ??? Now I know it needs to be kept pretty damp in that area.....but......what is it? I love them! They are about 4 feet in height with long slender palm like stems ! Any ideas ????

Does it spread on it's own and does it have a fragrance? It has a similar leaf shape to the ground orchid but I'm pretty sure that's not it. Interesting, the bloom has an orchid look. I'll be following to see what other comments are made here.

The only name I know is Mother-law Tongue plant. I had one for years and was surprised when it bloomed. Had no died they ever bloomed. The leaves are long and they do get about 4 feet tall.

It is a type of ginger, very common in the tropics and there in various colors.
