Removing or covering pop corn ceiling over pre-stressed concrete

Any suggestions on how to remove or cover a popcorn ceiling over pre-stressed concrete in a condo? We have been told it won't scrape off without leaving seams. We'd like to plank the ceiling but don't know how to adhere the planks since it is concrete under the popcorn.

If I understand, whether you remove it or cover it, you are going to put a tongue and groove ceiling in or something similar. I wouldn't remove the popcorn ceiling, I would use concrete screws and secure 1" X 2" pine strips to the ceiling and nail the boards to the strips. It's like putting lathes on rafters for cedar shake roof. Hope this helps!!

All you need to do is spray down the ceiling with warm water and scrape it smooth with a wide trowel - put drop clothes below for easy clean up - let dry and do whatever you want to it after that

Before attempting this job I recommend doing a asbestos check as that is a very serious undertaking.

I would go with Kevin Syler's idea! Easiest way to go. Make sure you check with your condo association if you can do this. Your concrete ceiling is your upstairs neighbor's floor, if there is someone living above you.
