Hydrangea blooming mystery

Question

I have a 5 yr old 'limelight' hydrangea that gets lots of flowers but the florets never open.  What can I do?

Hydrangeas like water very much. I live in a part of Hungary, where they call them / water gobler /. So try to water them more if sommer is hot and dry.
You may have the Japanies hydrageas??????those flowers are different from the rest.

Hydrangeas do not like soggy feet. Moist not saturated and placed in partial sun. Pruning should have been done as the new growth started to emerge.This variety is of the later blooming Hydrangeas.

Water, early season fertilizer , morning sunlight preferred...good soil.

A few things come to mind:

1)Is it in the shade and perhaps the others are getting plenty of sun.
2)Is it next to the foundation or some other source of lime. (They prefer acidic soil - I have several SV hydrangeas that are against a concrete retaining wall and they have not bloomed since planting several years ago. But others that are further away do fine. The only difference is the wall.
3) Perhaps you have two different varieties. This happens sometimes when the plants are mislabeled.
