What kind of wood is this?

Someone left a couple of these large slabs of wood on the street. Could anyone identify it for me. Also, my plan is to sand it down and cut out a pizza peel from it. Is there any issue in doing that? How do I know if it's pumped with chemicals or not? Thanks

They look like shelves from a unit of some kind. I don't think I would use them for food. My opinion.

I agree with Janet! Looks like a cheaper wood core with a birch veneer on one side and a book matched walnut veneer on the other. My observation based on the photos.

Its technical name is plywood.

I would schlep it up to Lowes or a similar store and ask the guys in the lumber area...it might be a little difficult to figure out what it is from a photo...

I'm all for recycling but...IMO I wouldn't use it for a pizza peel either...It may have been urinated on by animals while outside, or stored in a mouldy basement, or been in a flood...or like you said laden with chemicals.
