ANTS?! non-toxic ways of deterring them??

I have a couple ant hills that I have been trying to get rid of. One, is right by an area where I have been wanting to plant... does anyone have a non-toxic way of keeping them off my legs and/or feet?!?! Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Eradicating a whole nest / hill is pretty tough. I have read where digging out a few holes in the nest and filling them with baking soda then adding vinegar makes for a pretty effective "bunker buster" type bug bomb. You can also make a "tea" with pipe tobacco...and pout this nicotine water on the nest.

Ants hate cinnamon. Maybe try cinnamon poured into the holes?

i used cornmeal.... after 2 applications - they are nearly eradicated!!
