Passiflora incarnata. Commonly know as the passion vine or may-pop vine. Google the passion vine flower+story of Christ and learn about the correlation of the parts of the flower and how they relate to the crucifixion of Christ.

Yep. Passion flower vine.. I plated 1 (one!) a few years ago. Now I've got many, all over the place! You can't pull these up, they just regrow. Climbing all over the place, constant trimming to keep them under control. But beautiful flowers, wonderful fragrance, & butterflies galore!

The fruit is very good once it starts to turn yellow and get soft. Makes great juice in a juicer.

Yes, it's passion fruit or May pop. Found some growing wild in the back of my yard when we moved to VA 2 yrs. ago. They do pop up pretty much everywhere but the fruit is wonderful!

Lee Reich has a book about unusual fruits and talks about maypops there. I wish we could grow them as a perennial here. They are so exotic. I had one several years ago & did enjoy it. The next year I got one and had no luck. Had almost forgotten about them until your question about it.

we called them May Pops....when you step on the ripened fruit, it makes a loud pop sound! Bumblebees love them.

Passiflora, some of them give maracuya called fruits. Passion flower's name is a common name. It's very beautiful covering walls. Some herbalist should teach you about it's powerfull properties to calm down, relax, digestion, etc.

I finally knew the answer....but so does everybody else. LOL We had them growing wild on our bike trail, city people cut the grass, now no Passion Flowers.
