I Think It's a Phone Cabinet...........

When I was younger, most folks I knew had something like this.
The phone went on the top in the cubby part, and the index phone holder sat next to it,then phone book in the top drawer and scrap paper and such in the bottom.
However,I decided to make it a bedside unit by simply stripping it back then distressing it.
After all, everyone here seems to go for the distressed crap, which I am sooooo over.
But for $10,I might as well grab it and get going.
I took the hardware off the drawers and did a complete sand back using 80 grit paper as it was not in too bad a shape.

I then followed up with a 120 to get it nice and fine.

After this,I took it to the back yard to Dave's shop, blew it off using his compressor, then back to the courtyard to get a damp cloth wipe down.

This is needed because when you sand, you can get a very finer layer of dust that you can't see,and the last thing you need is the showing up in your paint.

I actually do this will all my pieces,I just forget to type it in the posts for you guys,so sorry about that one.
Here she is all ready to be painted except for one minor thing.

Curved friggin edges.

UGH !!!!!
Unfortunately, when they built this back in about the 70's,they thought this was way cool,as almost every other piece I run into has this curved edge.

Quite frankly,it is a pain in my butt, yet it still has to be done.

Hand sand anyone.........................?
After having a grumble session,I painted the whole thing, top, bottom, insides all in a white latex.

I use it cause it's cheap,or in this case,a free 5 gallon bucket.

I think I have told you guys before, paint is very expensive here in NZ,so I do what I can with what I have.

The whole thing got 3 coats, including the drawers.

Once dry,it was a simple matter of sticking it all back together.
Since it was a nice sunny day,I managed to knock this out in one day.

I finished her off by hand sanding the rough edges for that worn look, and a light coat of polyurethane furniture spray to seal it up.

I have this one listed for only $40,as it didn't take too much work at all.
