DIY Nautical Porthole Mirror

Sometimes a good makeover is better than splurging on a new accent piece. I gave a mirror an entirely new nautical porthole look easily with this DIY tutorial!
Bring a mirror from drabby and dated to lux and nautical with a unexpected material.
My wooden mirror was extremely heavy and looked really dated. With paint and upholstery tacks, this mirror received a nautical makeover perfect for any home. Plus, I added a special touch to give it more shine.
Start by painting your mirror with gold paint. Be sure to tape off the mirror to avoid getting paint on the mirror edges.
I opted for upholstery tacks to create a nautical look. These tacks come in different sizes, so you could use the larger tacks as well. I attempted to hammer mine in, but the wood was pretty thick. So, I snipped off the tack backs and used a glue gun to secure them in place.
Tip: Space out your tacks prior to gluing in place to be sure that your tacks will be evenly spaced out.
For a lux look, randomly add bits of gold leaf paper. It's perfectly alright if it covers some of the porthole tacks. I hung the mirror right at the entryway for an immediate punch of pizazz as you enter our home. Check out the full entryway in my home tour
